Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Chachabamba – Wiñay Wayna – Aguas Calientes
1. Early Morning Departure
Your experience begins early with hotel pick-up in Cusco around 4:00 a.m. You’ll travel to Ollantaytambo and board a scenic panoramic train to Km 104, the starting point of the Short Inca Trail.
2. Start the Hike
Upon arrival at Chachabamba (2,170 m), you’ll explore this archaeological site before beginning the trek.
The hike to Wiñay Wayna takes approximately 6 hours, passing through beautiful valleys, rivers, waterfalls, and lush cloud forest.
3. Visit Wiñay Wayna
One of the major highlights, Wiñay Wayna (“Forever Young”), features impressive agricultural terraces, ceremonial fountains, and ancient temples. Your guide will explain its importance and connection to Machu Picchu.
4. Sun Gate – Inti Punku
Continuing along the trail, you’ll arrive at Inti Punku (Sun Gate)—the iconic entrance that offers your first breathtaking panoramic view of Machu Picchu.
After enjoying the scenery, you’ll descend to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have dinner (if included) and spend the night at a comfortable hotel.
Day 2: Machu Picchu – Cusco
1. Visit to Machu Picchu
In the morning, you’ll take the bus up to Machu Picchu for a 2-hour guided tour. Your guide will explain the history, architecture, and spiritual significance of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
2. Free Time
After your guided visit, you’ll have free time to explore on your own or, if booked in advance, hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional, additional cost).
3. Return to Cusco
In the afternoon, you’ll take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and board the train to Ollantaytambo, with a private transfer to Cusco.
Arrival is typically around 8:00 p.m
